Summer 2019 House Project - Door Thresholds

It's hard to believe it's already August.  I guess it's time to get back to some of my summer house projects.

I know I've been in my house almost 10 years, but I've never gotten around to finishing the exterior door thresholds.  Plus some of the doors get exposed to a lot of snow so the jambs get rather weathered.  Today I started a project to get them fixed up before winter.

Paint sanded
And some of the thresholds still have a plastic protective covering on them. So I had to peel off the plastic and scrub off the sticky residue before I could sand them. Others have been worn off so they only needed to be sanded.

I got 3 doors mostly done today. The thresholds got 2 coats of stain & exterior urethane. Tomorrow they'll need to be lightly sanded and get another coat or 2 of urethane.

But the jambs are painted and should be good for the next couple of years.

And when these 3 doors are done, I have 3 more to do.

2019 - Spring Project #1

We are having a very early spring.  This time of May I usually have snow and ice in my driveway.  It's still a bit chilly, but the grass is green and I've been able to get started on my summer projects.  I have quite a list this year, since I'll be home all summer....!

So last week I dug out the back fill against the west side and front of my house.  Then I primed the new cement board and let it dry for a few days.  It was supposed to rain and I'm glad it didn't.

North Side (front)

On Monday I crawled around in the dirt and painted it all black, so it will match the cement board under the siding on the rest of the house.  That wasn't much fun, and I'm glad it's done.

Then today I pushed back backfill, which didn't take long.  It will settle over the next few weeks and need to be raked even again at some point, but for now it's done.

I'm for a couple of dry days next week so I can do some more yard clean up, then start project #2.
