Saturday afternoon around 4:30 pm I was driving from Anchorage to Soldotna, and realized there was a small bore tide traveling up Turnagain Arm. I drive this section of road a lot and see them a couple of times a year. It was a clear & sunny day, so I turned into a pull out just before Girdwood and took a few pictures. The Turnagain Arm Bore Tides are rather interesting. They can be pretty big, in fact some people surf them when they're expected to be large enough. This one though was rather small, and there was a lot of ice on the mud flats.
And here is the bore tide arriving, it really roared as the water moved in, though it wasn't a very big bore tide.
Anway, I got a few nice pictures. If you'd like to see the rest of them, click the link on the right to my photo albums and look for: 7 Turnagain Arm Bore Tide
